Sometimes you have to sit back and just marvel at how stupid some people can be, as I did after reading this story from Los Angeles Times writer Martha Groves.
According to Groves’ story, illegal dumping of raw sewage by RV'ers is a problem for residents along Southern California's most expensive beach communities. According to her report, residents of Venice have “asserted for years that people living in recreational vehicles were emptying raw sewage into storm drains and street gutters.
Obviously, this type of behavior reflects poorly on legitimate RV’ers, who might park along a street for a quick overnighter, and surely the city will crack down on RV parking in the future because of a few inconsiderate people with zero respect for our environment.
Apparently this problem stems from from the homeless that are now living in cheap RVs on city streets and using the gutters as their own private dump station because they can’t afford to do it legally. Which makes me wonder if they are also driving around without insurance!
A 28-year old suspect was recently apprehended by police after witnesses saw her releasing waste water in front of a private residence. Police followed a smelly trail of waste and toilet paper to her next stop several miles away and nabbed her red-handed. She ended up getting two days in jail and was released because she had no prior record.
In actuality, the dumping of human waste is subject to a $25,000 fine and as much as a year in jail, according to Groves’ story. So why isn’t this young offender given street clean-up duty (no pun intended) as punishment? Two days in jail must have been like a stay at a resort… she got three meals a day and a shower.
