I thought the H/T was more of an all-purpose truck tire, rugged and stable, but not built for towing specifically.
But Julie Sediq of Toyo pointed out, the new Open Country H/T is "specifically for high torque" diesel trucks that tow trailers or haul heavy loads. I thought I'd just pass that information along in hopes that it broadens your choice of tires the next time you need them.
What makes the H/T special is their build quality. The new H/T is a three-belt construction that stabilizes the internal structure of the tire. By limiting tread voids, Toyo's H/T essentially introduces more contact patch or rubber on the road. The new sipes, and deeper treads offer longer tread life and better wear. The Open Country H/T is available in 16- to 17-inch sixes in load range E for Chevy, Ford and Dodge 8-lug trucks.
Of course, all that means nothing if they don’t test as good as they look. So I'll be reporting back soon to give you the whole story on the new H/T, along with my own seat of the pants analysis.
In the meanwhile, you can check out the new Toyo H/T yourself at your local tire shop...Ask for the Tuff Duty line.
